Privacy

Your study data stays yours.

A plain-language account of what the archive keeps, where it keeps it, and what you control.

Last updated 2026-10-07

The short version

The archive is local-first. You can read, practise, save, and collect notes without an account, and your study data never leaves your device unless you send it yourself.

There are no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics. The only optional service is a self-hosted MongoDB connection, which is used to store content and any notes or discussion posts you choose to publish.

  • No account, sign-in, or email is required to use the archive.
  • Your saved notes, collections, progress, and journal entries stay in your browser.
  • Nothing is sold, profiled, or shared with advertisers.

What stays on your device

Interactive state is kept in your browser's local storage under the key finance-archive:study-v2. This is what makes the archive remember your place between visits without a server.

  • Saved and bookmarked notes, and the study collections you build.
  • Concept mastery, practice history, and exam attempts.
  • Decision-journal entries and simulator runs.
  • Reader preferences, such as the last position in an article.

Clearing your data

Because that state lives in your browser, you stay in control of it. Clearing site data for this domain — or using the reset controls inside the app — removes your saved progress and collections immediately.

If you use a shared or public computer, clear the site data when you are finished so the next person does not see your study history.

What a server stores

When the optional backend is enabled, the server stores the archive's content records and anything you explicitly publish. It does not create user profiles and it does not track individual readers.

  • Published notes and discussion threads are stored so they can be shown to others.
  • Requests are logged in the ordinary way a web server logs traffic; these logs are used for reliability, not profiling.
  • If you self-host the database, you are the controller of that data.

Shared content is public

Any note, question, or comment you post to the collaboration area is visible to anyone who can reach that server. Please do not post private or sensitive information.

You can ask for a post to be removed by contacting the maintainer through the links in the footer.

Cookies and analytics

The archive does not set tracking cookies and does not include third-party analytics, pixels, or ad networks. Any cookies present are those strictly required for the site to function.

Who this is for

Finance Archive is written for a general audience of students and professionals. It is an educational tool, not a financial service, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If the way the archive handles data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top of the page will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
